About The Opportunity
The Process Engineering department within Research Centre Trollhättan is now looking for more Automation Engineers with the focus on robot programming.
The Research Centre is a part of the GKN Global Research and Technology organization at GKN Aerospace and currently we are 75 employees. We are located at GKN Aerospace Engine System site in Trollhättan, and has laboratory at Innovatum. Process Engineering has the responsibility to develop advanced manufacturing processes for next generation of aero engines. The department focus areas are
Free form additive manufacturing
all with focus on automation.
We have at the research lab four robot cells for different purposes. Specifically, GKN has a state-of-art additive manufacturing capability in our robot-laser-welding cells. Historically, metallics has been dominated, but we are expanding ambition to also build a composite automation cell. The work is organized in technology projects where we develop new product concepts and implement new processes in production. The department is currently 20 employees with a strong ambition to grow. We also have continuous cooperation with the production organization four insertion of technology.
The department of Process Engineering now has an open position for an Automation Engineer with the focus of mechatronics and robotics. The role will include programming of ABB robot system for several different purposes as well as developing the of control system for our special processes.
You are an Engineer with a competence profile in mechatronics and robotics interested in working practically with equipment and process development. The role also involves close collaboration with researchers and research organizations within the field of automation.
We are looking for an Automation Engineer
to our Research Centre with a strong education in mechatronic or robot system with
a passion for programming.
- Programming of ABB robots in our robot-laser-welding
or automation cells, typically to demonstrate new process capability or to
build technology demonstrators
- Participate in process development
where robot is an critical function
- Drive technology development
projects within R&T
- Contribute with creativity and
support colleagues in our technology teams, with the future possibility be a

programs in corporation with Universities
The work is performed
in our teams as internal technology development projects, and in research
projects often done in bilateral or multilateral collaboration with our
partners in the EU, as well as GKN sites in the USA, and with University
Experience / Skills
- You are an engineer
with an MSc or PhD degree in specifically in Robotics or Mechatronics or have at
least 5 years of experience in the field.
- You have education/experience
programming and handling of ABB robots
- It is meritorious
with experience of programming and simulation in Robot Studio.
- It is meritorious
with experience of ABB PLC programming or HMI programming
- It is meritorious
with experience of robot automation cell design and build
- You have a desire to
work practically in the lab with both with process development and equipment
- You have good ability
to communicate and present plans and results internally as well as externally
with our partners
- You have good social
skills, the ability to create effective networks and can take on a technical
