Role Purpose

We are looking for a first line manager to the Space Manufacturing Engineering department. The department consists of 23 manufacturing engineers (TA) that today are working in Business Unit Space´s production program Ariane 5, the development program Ariane 6 (that will enter into serial production in 2018), demonstrator hardware programs, other smaller technology programs and the spare part production program for the military RM12 engine.

The Role is to lead the department with all normal obligations that follow with first line management responsibility. The main focus is on personnel development (coaching, trainings, job-rotation etc), lead and support the LEAN culture implementation, work with dimensioning and having the right skills and numerous taking all resource needs expressed from programs, projects and value stream into account.

You must have a genuine interest in developing other people, coaching and supporting your personnel. Your staff is spread across three different locations at the company, but all are in Trollhättan. You must have the ability to include everyone.

The majority of your staff will be deployed to the Value Stream “Special Products & Processes” and various programs and projects within the area of Business Unit Space and Military. A smaller amount of assignments will be in the department with you as a driver and delivery manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Development of staff and working methods is a natural part of our daily work.

  • You will have the responsibility for internal environment and personal health and safety

  • Performance evaluation and salary review

  • Employee development dialogue (PDP)

  • Administration of personnel

  • Allocate personnel to requesting Value Stream, Programs and Projects

  • Understand the current and future resource needs (skills and capacity) and adapt the department to it

  • Be responsible for the department’s budget

  • Be an active part in the strategy work for the BU Space, the Value Stream and Manufacturing Engineering

  • Ensuring visual management and visual leadership including recognition, coaching and constructive feedback

Qualifications / Experience / Skills

We are looking for a person with a strong drive to deliver and constantly develop and improve the team. You are a leader with an interest and ability to lead and develop your employees. The position requires an outgoing personality with great collaboration skills as well as ability to work independently. Strong customers focus and good communication skills are essential, also the ability of networking and creating relationships.

You have a technical background, preferably at academic level.

  • A minimum of 5-years of industrial experience in manufacturing engineering and/or other relevant experiences

  • You have the ability to work independently as well as through your team and cross functional in order to meet established goals and targets

  • Knowledge of GKN's LEAN Enterprise, GKN's administrative systems such as MyGKN and GKNTid, previous leadership experience is meritorious.

  • You must be aware of, accept and comply with The GKN Code and GKN DNA.

  • Capability to communicate in both Swedish and English

  • An outgoing, open-minded, and positive person
