We are now looking for an Evaluation Director which is a global role within Respiratory diseases in the Global Product and Portfolio Strategy organization.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
As Evaluation Director you will lead all aspects of search and evaluation for business development opportunities working collaboratively with the Transaction Director equivalent from Business Development Operations throughout the deal process. You will be able to handle a wide range of projects and engage with prospective partners. You will form and lead cross-functional teams to evaluate opportunities. The role requires strong judgement and decision-making skills to take responsibility both for progressing and terminating evaluations. One of the key responsibilities as Evaluation Director is to drive and generate a proactive opportunity flow to be evaluated and managed through the process to decision. You will report to the Head of Respiratory Emerging Portfolio.
As Evaluation Director you will be accountable for:
Work with relevant stakeholders to define an externalisation strategy for Corporate, Regional or the relevant TA and participate in communicating this strategy to internal and external stakeholders.
Lead externalisation input into assigned business area and work with GPPS leadership to ensure appropriate prioritisation and ranking of opportunities across the business area (Franchise or Region).
Ensure that targeted opportunities are identified, evaluated and, as appropriate, presented to the business effectively and efficiently (these may be in/out licensing, divestment, acquisition or alliance opportunities).
Establish external and internal networks to ensure early identification and capture of relevant opportunities.
Attend relevant external scientific conferences to search for and identify opportunities. Enhance perception of AZ as partner of choice by participating actively at partnering meetings and responding promptly to external potential partners.
Work collaboratively and flexibly to access opportunities from a wide range of sources.
Interpret and synthesise data gathered from 3rd parties, desk sources and internal AZ knowledge in building evaluations.
Establish and lead international, multifunctional teams for the technical, commercial and corporate evaluation of opportunities.
Identify technical, regulatory, commercial and corporate risks and opportunities within an individual proposition and make clear recommendations to senior management to progress or to close.
Ensure that all evaluations are thorough and objective, with clear opportunity and risk assessment.
Manage the relationship with the potential partner in the initial and evaluation phase in a timely and professional manner.
Interacting at Board level with Partners, Targets, Investment Banks, Law Firms and other consultants and advisers. Ensure that AZ remains competitive in 3rd party deal process and is positioned as partner of choice.
Work with the DD directors to ensure that DD team are briefed on the opportunity and to help put DD findings in perspective.
Second degree, e.g. MBA. PhD or MD, but also first degree education acceptable as a minimum.
Minimum 10 years’ experience.
Significant global experience (leadership in Global commercial, development or Regional).
Broad knowledge of pharmaceutical business, process and activities.
In-depth knowledge of one or more diseases of respiratory, inflammation and autoimmune in addition to in-depth knowledge of drug development and commercial processes with particular reference to AZ process.
An established personal external network.
Knowledge of scientific, commercial and financial evaluation techniques.
Extensive experience in leading multiple, large, international, multi-functional project teams of senior professionals.
Strong analytical skills and ability to ascertain the relevant issues from large masses of information.
Numerate and having financial literacy.
Strong interpersonal and team leadership skills, demonstrating flexibility, proven ability to deal with complexity under time pressure.
Experience and effectiveness in the presentation of written and oral business cases to the most senior AZ Management, up to and including SET.
Gravitas and experience to create a positive relationship with third parties as an AZ Ambassador at Board and Executive Committee level.

Previous working experience in both a pharma/ biotech and commercial environment is a plus.
