Manager, Competence Development

For the Kalmar Services division we are looking for an experienced

Manager, Competence Development

to develop and deploy global competency and training development targeted at maturing the field capability of the Kalmar service technicians. The position reports to Vice President, Service Process Development and Competence Centre.

The role will work closely with product divisions, Regions, countries, External vendors and service providers.

Key responsibilities

  • Create a targeted training and competency strategy based on product division, region and Services strategies. Drive the related budgeting process and instructions.

  • Manage the project to build the Kalmar service Technicians’ technical training academy and to foster the collaboration and alignment with the Kalmar Human resources, product divisions and regions.

  • Coordinate with Services, product division and regions globally to implement the strategies

  • Implement standard work/processes to ensure sustainability of competency progress.

  • Conduct needs assessment to determine training and competency projects that will deliver growth and operational excellence in the field.

  • Introduce a new training planning strategy based on real lack of competencies or business needs

  • Link field development projects to technician competency and career development

  • Determine and track KPIs (effectiveness measures) associated with field development projects.

  • Deliver “on-demand” training capability through integration of a knowledge management platform (LMS, FAQ, Knowledge Management data base)

  • Implement a differentiated training strategy which effectively aligns class room, distance, web-based, virtual and/or “on the job” requirements.

  • Accountable for maintaining the credibility and integrity of the training programs and curriculums globally. This will include the validation of the training content, instructional methodology and course development criteria.

In order to be successful in this position we believe you fulfil the following criteria:

Education and experience

  • University degree in relevant field

  • At least 5 years relevant global experience in competence development in the industrial sector.

  • Experience from automotive or heavy transportation industry is considered an asset.

  • Experience on advance digital trainings material development.

  • Customer support experience.


  • Effective leadership, influencing and collaboration skills are essential

The office location for this job is in Ljungby, Sweden or Helsinki/Tampere, Finland.
